There’s something about Autumn that gets us feeling all warm inside. Whether it’s the thought of our gardens turning rich shades of red, orange and yellow, or drinking hot chocolates as we sit watching the leaves fall from our window, we just can’t get enough of it. It’s no wonder Autumn weddings are so popular, and in this post we provide some helpful hints and tips on how to make your wedding tables look their most seasonal.
Autumnal garlands
We really love our garlands and for an Autumn wedding table they are practically mandatory! You can fashion them from fallen leaves (try to get a healthy variety to create awesome contrast) mini pumpkins and squashes, then pepper them with a range of red roses and astilbes.
As they’re for the table, you don’t have to worry that they’re going to fall on someone’s head. A good idea is to either have them draped at opposite ends of your tables, or weave them across the table in a serpentine twist. This will create quite the statement for your Autumnal extravaganza!
A seasonal centrepiece
You can truly embrace the season with an Autumnal centerpiece. If you’re having your wedding during the month of October, then you simply must have some pumpkins in there. A good tip is to use a slice of tree trunk as a pedestal for the pumpkin, then add some smaller pumpkins and leaves around the base.
For a September wedding, right at the very beginning of the season, you can merge the last remnants of Summer with the oncoming beauty of Autumn. We adore this idea from Martha Stewart, which mixes flowers, herbs and fruit, titled Farmer’s Market Centrepiece. We’ll let Martha explain:
“Aside from the fresh white blooms, this sprawling arrangement featured dark and bountiful produce fresh-picked that morning at a nearby farmer’s market. Fruits, eggplant (aubergine) and herbs sat alongside gray tapers and gold votives, bringing a warm and earthy feel appropriate for the season.”
Another idea is to have several large slices of tree trunks, topped with apples and pinecones. Combined with a few pheasant or partridge feathers there make for a great contrast.
Get inspired by the Autumn harvest
Autumn is harvest time in the countryside, as farmers across the country reap the rewards from their months of hard work. With that in mind, let’s look at some harvest inspired ideas for your table.
For place settings, instead of going for a metal or glass charger, opt for a bit of vintage charm and use a wooden one, accompanied by some simple linen napkins and vintage cutlery.
When it comes to place place cards, you can do away with having an actual card altogether, and simply write the names of your guests on an apple or lush red pomegranate. This would be a great way to add a bit of uniqueness to the overall table scape!
