This charming couple booked St Audries Park to hold their wedding day before they were engaged.
‘Our daughter Sophie actually found St Audries! She googled Wedding venues in the south west and then said, Mum I’ve found the place you’re going to get married! We booked a visit for Father’s day 2016 and booked the venue there and then (before being engaged!!)’
Jo fell in love with St Audries the minute she laid eyes on the venue, it had everything she could have hoped for!
After talking to the staff here at St Audries and hearing all about our Christmas decorations whilst sitting next to the crackling fire in the great hall she instantly envisioned a winters wedding.
The pressure was on for Chris to propose now that they had a wedding venue booked, he wanted the moment to be perfect.
‘Chris prepared a 60 page photobook containing over 300 photos of our time together, the very last page had a photo of our son in a baby vest. On this vest were the words ‘mummy will you marry my daddy?’ He gave me the book to look through, and when I got to the last page and saw this photo I began to cry! It was then I saw Chris was down on one knee holding a platinum diamond solitaire ring and Ethan in the very same vest!’
Jo and Chris started their planning by working out what aspects of the day were most important to them and ensuring that the money was spent in these areas. This included the venue, photographer, videographer and the wedding attire.
‘We were very lucky to have friends who helped us with a lot of other things to save money, as its very easy to get carried away spending money on details that only you will ever appreciate.’
Jo and Chris wanted to have a wedding that reflected who they were. They went for a Christmas wedding with a Black Tie theme with personal touches to make their wedding day memorable.
‘We gave our tables names rather than numbers and underneath the name was the meaning, “Rudimental” – our favourite group & “Haze & Hendricks” – our favourite drinks for example.’
They dressed the venue with candles (St Audries Park Candle Package) to enhance the romantic atmosphere and set up the tables for the wedding breakfast with further candles, mirrors and sparkles. They choose red sashes for the chairs to match the bridesmaids dresses and place names sat within corks on the tables (Which was their biggest wedding saving!).
‘We tied individual seating plans which were printed on extra-large “gift/luggage” tags, which were hung from the branches of one of the bauble trees to continue the Christmas effect! It was just beautiful.’
‘We used Jane at Eden for our flowers as recommended by St Audries. Id 10000% recommend her as it was so easy and the flowers were gorgeous.’
Jo wore a beautiful straight, strapless dress lightly covered in delicate beading with lace detailing and a scalloped bottom by a British designer, Charlotte Balbier. The dress looked amazing and Jo felt like a million dollars in it.
I had the complete opposite to what I thought I’d wear!! Id looked at magazines and thought I wanted Sleeves & an illusion back, I tracked the dress down that I thought I wanted, travelled to Wales to try it on and hated it!!
Chris wore an Italian Grey 3 piece Suit from Dyfed Menswear teamed with a red bowtie to match the bridesmaids.
‘The grey and red looked amazing together, in the photos the colour really pops! I thought Chris looked amazing.’
‘We had 3 Bridesmaids who all wore Flame Red Gowns made by Dessy and white faux fur wraps. Our Best Man and 3 Ushers all wore the same suit as Chris. The best man also wore a red bow tie, the ushers wore black.’
Jo and Chris got married in our beautiful Victorian Orangery here at St Audries Park followed by a canape and drinks reception in the Main House.
‘I walked down the aisle on my dad’s arm to an acoustic version of our favourite song – Waiting All Night –Ella Eyre & Rudimental. We had two readings, and the traditional vows service. We walked out to Feel the Love – Rudimental. We also carefully prepared short playlists for when our guests were being seated and for when we were signing the register.’
Jo and Chris have a few highlights from their big day
‘… one was seeing Chris’s face when he saw me for the first time, another was seeing everyone’s faces whilst Sophie was making her speech and the tears that followed afterwards, a third was when a few of us just chilled in front of the fire after midnight when most had gone to bed but a HUGE moment for me was when we walked into the library for our quiet 10 minutes immediately after getting married.’
Our Personal Wedding Managers here at St Audries Park always recommend that the wedding couple take a chance to have a quiet moment with just the two of them following the ceremony. Most of our couples enjoy 5 – 10 minutes of quiet time with their favourite tipple on their own but Chris had a surprise for Jo.
‘I walked in first and was met by Dan Brazier …a complete Surprise! I absolutely love magic and had no clue that Chris had booked him. Needless to say he went down a storm with our guests too.’
Jo and Chris used our resident DJ that was included in their package for the evening reception. They chose ‘Everything’ by Michael Buble as their first dance song.
‘Chris took me to see him as a birthday gift a few years back, I loved the song when he performed it then. But it’s the words that mean so much to us, as we’ve been through a lot together over the last few years. Absolutely no choreography involved!!’
We asked Jo and Chris if there was anything they would change about their wedding day…
‘If we could do it all again, we’d… change absolutely nothing. It was a perfect day.
The only tips we’d offer is to discuss everything together, and find out what secret talents your friends have that may help you save money! It worked for us.’
Jo and Chris are planning to take their kids to New York in December to celebrate their wedding anniversary with a once in a lifetime family holiday!
