Unless you’re extremely lucky, there are always going to be a few post wedding regrets. Things you wish you’d done differently or aspects of the day that just weren’t quite right are probably going to bother you for years to come, whether or not anyone else noticed them.
Because we want you to have the best day possible, and don’t want any regrets to niggle at you in the future, we’ve scoured the web, and spoken to some of our own couples, to find out which things most brides wish they’d done differently. Keep reading to learn from their regrets.
1. Skimping on the videography
According to Wedding Ideas Mag “not booking a videographer was the top regret for brides and those that organised a professional to shoot the whole day on film were really glad they had spent the money”. Though the cost of hiring a videographer may be considerable, you’ll treasure the memories they capture for a lifetime, something that’s truly priceless.
2. Not securing a venue early
Securing a venue should be one of the very first things on your to do list. If you don’t act early, you could miss out on that perfect setting.
3. Inviting too many guests
To put it bluntly, inviting too many guests can make the day expensive, stressful and less intimate.
4. Not hiring a professional makeup artist
This is another area where a lot of couples try to cut costs. Though it might seem like a good idea at the time, come the morning of your wedding, you’ll wish you’d spent the extra cash on a professional hair and makeup artist.
5. Not practising your wedding hairstyle
Just because a hairstyle looks great in a photo, doesn’t mean it’s going to look good on you. Make time to practice your wedding do before the big day to ensure you get your look just right.
6. Getting bogged down in admin
Friends, family, caterers, florists, musicians and everyone else who’s part of your wedding will call you at some point during the day. Nominate a good friend to field all these calls so you don’t get bogged down in admin.
7. Sweating the small stuff
Although you may stress about the centrepieces, the nametags and the seating plan, no one else will notice. Instead of worrying about these little details, concentrate on enjoying your day.
8. Missing out friends and family from the photo list
A few weeks before your wedding, sit down with your partner and write a list of all the photos you want on the day to make sure no one gets left out.
9. Leaving for the honeymoon too soon
A lot of brides tell us they wish they’d left more time between their wedding and their honeymoon. Give yourself at least two or three days to relax after the big day before jetting off to your destination.
10. Not taking the time to drink it all in
Last but not least, one of the most common wedding day regrets is not taking the time to sit back and experience the day. Brides are often so busy rushing around they don’t have time to have fun, so make sure you put a bit of time aside to really enjoy it.
