Tips for an engaging wedding ceremony

Wedding ceremony

Many couples want to ensure they hold their guests attention all throughout their wedding day; luckily there are many ways that you can capture and uphold your wedding parties’ interest throughout your ceremony. Below, we explore how to keep your guests interested throughout the day.

Add a meaningful touch

One way to ensure that your wedding ceremony is engaging is to ensure that it’s personal to you and your relationship and that it brings a heartfelt feel to the proceedings.

Shake up your music

When the bride walks down the aisle, she traditionally walks to a piece of classical music, but one great way to shape up your ceremony and make it more engaging for your guests is by playing music that nobody would expect. The Knot shows us how it’s done:

“String quartets, harps and organs are all traditional choices for your wedding ceremony music, but just because the instruments are classical doesn’t mean the songs have to be. Ask your musicians about playing instrumental versions of your favorite popular songs for a creative touch, like a piano solo of John Legend’s “All of Me” or a classical rendition of a rock ballad like “Wonderwall” by Oasis. You can also incorporate a nod to your cultural background or your wedding theme through music with a steel-drum band, bagpiper or a gospel choir to serenade your guests before your arrival, or have a surprise musical act start off your processional.”

Liven up your programs

There are many ways that you can style your wedding programs, in order to delight and entertain your wedding guests. Many brides and grooms include fun games on their wedding programs: such as quizzes on the bride and groom, or a playful crossword.

Put together a slideshow

A fun way to keep your guests entertained as they wait for the grand walk down the aisle is by setting up a fun and heartfelt slideshow. A slideshow can be filled with photos of milestones in yours’ a your partner’s’ relationship; your first date, your favourite holiday, playful shots and pictures of family events. Your slideshow can also include photos of your loved ones and people who are most important to you.

Write original vows

Writing your own vows can give you a great opportunity to make them as meaningful, personal, or amusing as you wish them to be. Vows which are fresh and original, heartfelt and funny will keep your guests entertained and engaged.

Revamp your big exit

Another fun way to liven up your ceremony is by making your wedding exit more engaging than the standard exit fare, as Brides notes:

“Nix the tossed rice and have guests wave ribbon wands or colorful paper pinwheels as you exit the ceremony. Or place party-store tambourines, kazoos, and other noisemakers on seats so guests can jam while you walk out.”
