Royal weddings have offered inspiration aplenty in recent years. Marrying couples aren’t just looking back on the nuptials of recent princes and princesses walking down the aisle but taking inspiration from historical royal weddings for timelessly elegant ideas to shape their own special days. There’s another source of royal inspiration that’s set to influence wedding days, however.
Disney has collaborated with Allure Bridal to release a range of wedding dress designs inspired by our favourite fictional princesses.
The aptly named Disney Fairy Tale Weddings Collection features bridal styles for the most iconic Disney princesses with the creations debuted during New York Bridal Fashion Week. The dresses are actually available to buy – check out the collection here – so you can don the princess gown you’ve always envisaged to begin your very own happily ever after.
Here we take a sneak peek into what to expect from the Disney inspired wedding dresses that hit the catwalk.
Under the sea
The Little Mermaid deserves nothing less than a stunning fishtail bridal gown. With a simple, fitted bodice, the dress is a romantic ensemble that finishes with a flourish. The fishtail itself is a sophisticated ruffle design made from layers of organza and tulle. This perfectly simulates everything that Ariel loves – the sea and its majestic waves.
Disney and Allure have released two versions of the Ariel bridal gown, one of which is a more muted design, whilst the other is intricately embellished with pearls and other sparkling details.
The belle of the ball
Fans of Beauty and the Beast will recognise the similarities between the Belle wedding dress design and her iconic yellow, off the shoulder number that she wears when she dances and falls in love with the Beast. Instead of a bold yellow, the wedding gown is a traditional white and has a fabulous floral detail that starts at the dipping neckline and elegantly cascades down the dress.
The Cinderella dress also takes inspiration from an iconic accessory used in the Disney film of the same name. The gown has all the glitz and glam of Cinderella’s iconic glass slipper using sequins and crystals to add plenty more sparkle.
A romantic ride
Complete with a show-stopping, detachable train, the Jasmine dress has all the romance of a magic carpet ride with your special someone. The dress is fitted with beautifully detailed capped sleeves, while the train sports a stunning appliqué design that resembles the magic carpet itself.
The Pocahontas dress is another modern take on a classic, but it’s not just the fitted silhouette, sweetheart neckline and spaghetti straps that will make it popular with brides shopping for wedding dresses today. The gown is covered in a beautiful beaded pattern that adds further interest and elegance.
Disney-fy the rest of your day
There are tons of ways you can incorporate your love of Disney into your wedding day. Whether you splash out on a Disney inspired bridal gown or not, the little touches can make a big difference too.
Disney favours, accessories (including your wedding footwear), table plans and orders of service can transform your ceremony and reception. Those looking to go one step further will want to read Hitched’s advice on creating Disney inspired wedding décor:
“Give your wedding décor a subtle Disney twist by leaving a Beauty and the Beast inspired rose at every guest’s place setting. It’s a really romantic way to include your favourite film on your wedding day. If you love the idea of including roses in your décor then you need to check out the Belle Jar Company, who make beautiful roses in bell jars that you need to have as centrepieces!”
